On June 24, 2011, the Roswell Flight Test Crew was in action before dawn, capturing an aerial view of the first day of the Tigard Festival of Balloons. Earlier in the week, we met with Jim Smith, a balloon pilot instructor examiner and safety coordinator for the event.
He graciously gave us permission to fly during the early morning balloon launches, provided that we adhered to some essential safety requirements: never flying above a balloon or over the festival grounds, and always maintaining our craft where the balloon pilots would be able to see them.
We were happy to oblige, and to share our footage with the event’s organizers. However, they weren’t prepared to deal with gigabytes of raw HD footage, so I took up Microsoft Movie Maker and did the best I could in a few spare hours. See for yourself:
