When I downloaded my electronic copy of the September issue of Model Aviation, I was thunderstruck by the cover image. Check it out:
The truth is that I was hoping Chris Hamilton's cool image of RQCX-3 “Raven” not looking at a structure fire – featured in this issue – would make the cover. However, once I saw this, I was glad that it didn't. It's hard to imagine an image doing a better job of conveying the danger that the FAA poses to the hobby right now, as well as the need for collective action on our part to turn back this threat.
Hearty congratulations to Editor-in-Chief Jay Smith and the entire team at Model Aviation for putting together this brilliant piece of advocacy journalism.
My one concern is that if the FAA gets up to some additional nonsense a little further down the road will we, as a community, begin to grown numb to these calls for action – having grown accustomed to such dire warnings and evocative images?
We'll have to burn that bridge when we come to it, I suppose, and hope that we spank the FAA hard enough on this go-around that they think twice before pulling something like this again. Keep those comments coming!
